Brenda is an Australian registered foreign lawyer (admitted in Washington DC), and Partner and Head of International Arbitration - Australia for Herbert Smith Freehills. She is based in the firm’s Sydney office, and specializes in international arbitration with a particular focus on disputes involving emerging markets. Brenda recently relocated to Sydney from Herbert Smith Freehill’s Shanghai office.
She works with clients on complex international commercial arbitrations and investment treaty arbitration matters at both the arbitration and enforcement stages. She advises clients in matters conducted under a wide variety of arbitration rules, and also sits as arbitrator.
Brenda is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, is the past co-chair of the China Committee of the American Bar Association Section of International Law, and served for several years as Global Adjunct Professor of Law at New York University Law School (Shanghai campus).
In addition to Sydney and Shanghai, Brenda has also practiced in the US, Moscow and Paris. She is fluent in Russian and French, and speaks elementary Mandarin.
